Michaelle JeanI am pleased to send my warmest greetings to everyone celebrating the Chinese New Year at the Ottawa presentation of the Divine Performing Arts 2009 World Tour.

As Canadians, we take great pride in preserving the heritage of our ancestors, ensuring that succeeding generations will understand and appreciate their history. Whether Canadian by birth or by adoption, whether our roots extend beyond these borders or are just breaking ground, we gain invaluable knowledge about each other and ourselves by sharing our traditions, customs and beliefs.

This celebration, and many others like it being held in communities across Canada, reflects the beauty of our nation’s rich cultural tapestry. I hope you will all have an equally delightful opportunity to give thanks for past lessings and to usher in the Year of the Ox with hope, good health and happiness.

larry_obrienOn behalf of Members of Ottawa City Council, representing a population of 888,000, I want to extend a warm welcome to the Chinese-Canadian communities of our nation’s capital, Montréal, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, and others world-wide on the occasion of the Divine Performing Arts 2009 World Tour.

As Mayor of Canada’s capital city, I am pleased that Ottawa has again been selected as one of the Canadian cities, where performing arts will serve as a vehicle to increase public awareness of the important contributions, which Chinese culture, its languages and civilization have made to Canadian multiculturalism.

This world-class production, which will play to an Ottawa audience of more than 8,000 guests in the National Arts Centre’s Southam Hall, is a unique opportunity as well for Canada’s citizens of Chinese ancestry and the broader population to come together via satellite with other Chinese communities in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia to be entertained by internationally acclaimed Chinese performers including talented artists from the West.

As four continents jubilantly ring in the Year of the Ox, allow me to wish you a most enjoyable celebration as well as good health, happiness and much fortune in 2009.

Sincerely,

Larry O’Brien, Mayor
City of Ottawa, Canada

Kuldip Kular2008 Chinese New Year Spectacular

I am pleased to extend warm greetings to all of those attending the 2008 Chinese New Year Spectacular.

The Chinese New Year Spectacular is spreading the rich culture of China in a very unique way through costumes, choreography, music, and scenery. This show has and continues to reach many people across Canada and internationally, becoming the largest overseas Chinese cultural production.

I would also like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of New Tang Dynasty Television for producing the show and the Divine Performing Arts for presenting the beauty and distinction of China's heritage. Having Chinese New Year Spectacular perform in Ontario is another testament to the promotion of multiculturalism and diversity that makes our province and the rest of Canada a more democratic and understanding place.

Please accept my best wishes for a most successful and exciting event.

Andrew TelegdiDear Friends,

I am pleased to join Canadians of Chinese descent along with all Canadians in the celebrations of the 2008 Chinese New Year. Congratulations on this happy occasion.

The Chinese New Year is a time to rejoice and partake in the longest and most important celebration in the Chinese calendar. Citizenship and Immigration has been of special importance to me. Immigration has been, is and will continue to be the life blood of our country. I am deeply committed to building an inclusive Canada. February 7th, 2008 marks the year of the Rat. These celebrations provide an opportunity for all Canadians to give recognition to the many contributions of Chinese-Canadians to the social, economic and cultural mosaic of our nation.

I would like to congratulate New Tang Dynasty Television as the 2008 Chinese New Year Spectacular marks your 5th annual event of entertaining live audiences throughout the world. NTDTV Canada has taken a leadership role in the promotion of China's traditional arts and culture nationally while meeting the needs of multi-ethnic and multicultural communities in Canada.
